Editorial policy

We publish health information that people use to make decisions about their care. This page sets out how we produce it, who checks it, and what we do when we get something wrong.

What we publish, and what we don't

We publish general health information about metabolic conditions, the tests used to assess them, and how care is organised in Australia. We also publish a directory of health services.

We don't provide medical advice, diagnose conditions, recommend treatments for individuals, or facilitate access to medicines. Nothing on this site substitutes for a consultation with a practitioner who knows your history.

How we research

Clinical content is written from primary sources:

• Australian clinical guidelines and position statements from bodies including the RACGP, Gastroenterological Society of Australia and Diabetes Australia
• Peer-reviewed research
• Australian government sources including the AIHW, ABS, MBS Online, the PBS and the TGA
• Regulatory and professional body guidance

We don't source clinical claims from other health content sites, from commercial or promotional material, or from press coverage of research without checking the underlying study.

Where evidence is uncertain, contested or evolving, we say so rather than presenting a settled position that doesn't exist.

How we review

Clinical pages are written for medical review by registered Australian health practitioners. Our review panel is being established — until named reviewers are listed on the medical review page, clinical content should be treated as draft pending sign-off.

Once review is in place, each clinical page will show:

• The author
• The reviewing practitioner and their registration
• The date it was last reviewed

How we keep content current

Clinical content is reviewed on a scheduled cycle:

We also review outside that cycle when guidelines change, when a clinical instrument is updated, or when an error is reported.

Corrections

If we publish something inaccurate, we correct it. Substantive corrections to clinical content are noted on the page with the date.

Advertising, commercial relationships and independence

This matters more than usual in our category, so we'll be specific.

We charge health services for enhanced directory listings. Paid listings receive priority placement within the directory and additional features. Paid placement is identified as such.

Payment does not affect clinical content. We don't accept payment to write, alter, remove or slant clinical information. Editorial and commercial decisions are made separately, and no advertiser or listed provider reviews clinical content before publication.

We charge flat fees only. We don't take a percentage of any consultation, treatment or prescription fee. Our revenue is not linked to whether or how anyone is treated.

We also work commercially with health services on diagnostic equipment and training. Where our content relates to an area in which we have a commercial interest, that relationship is disclosed on the relevant pages.

We don't publish patient reviews, ratings or testimonials. Australian law prohibits testimonials in advertising regulated health services, and we comply with that. Inclusion in our directory is not an endorsement, and we don't rank practitioners on clinical grounds.

We don't advertise prescription medicines. Australian law prohibits advertising prescription-only medicines to the public. Our content explains conditions, physiology and clinical pathways; it does not promote, name or direct people toward specific medicines.

Privacy

Health information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988. Where you contact a provider through this site, we tell you what information is shared, with whom, and seek your consent before sharing it. See our privacy policy.

Accessibility and language

We write in plain English, define clinical terms on first use, and aim to be understandable without prior knowledge — without simplifying to the point of inaccuracy.
